We had almost 100% attendance at the first group/ensemble lesson of 2011 with only one student missing! Rehearsal was begun on our newest ensemble piece, “Fresh Start”, we discussed articles on our monthly magazine, “Piano Explorer” and each student performed a piano solo.
Some of the announcements included:
- Festival fees are due to me ASAP. I will be turning in the applications soon.
- Our next group/ensemble lesson will be Tuesday, February 22nd at 5:00 pm (both festival/recital pieces should be played from memory).
- Pre-festival recital is scheduled for Sunday, February 27th: all students are expected to perform whether or not they are participating in the festival and all pieces should be performed from memory.
- Composition contest as described in the January “Piano Explorer”. Students should begin to work on a composition which may or may not be entered in the competition, but everyone should begin working on a composition.
- Festival rehearsal will be on Friday, March 11th and the Festival is Saturday, March 12th. I have potentially 5 students participating.
- Welcome to our newest student, Brianna!
Lessons resumed last week and I was excited to see everyone! I hope everyone is back on schedule with practice…don’t forget to record it at home and in the studio. Also, don’t forget that I WILL be teaching Monday afternoon, January 17th, even though there is no school that day. Our group/ensemble lesson will be on Tuesday, January 25th from 5:00-6:00 pm.
I hope you enjoy the pictures from Christmas!
We had a really fun Fall Recital on October 31st. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! November has arrived with beautiful weather but it will be gone before we know it! I hope you have been able to enjoy the beautiful weather, the warmth and the colors of fall this year!
We will have our November group/ensemble lesson on the Monday before Thanksgiving–Monday, November 22nd from 4:30-5:30. The main focus of this lesson will be to rehearse our xmas ensemble that was assigned at the last lesson, so it is very important that everyone practices the piece and attends the lesson.
In December we will have our regular lessons as scheduled (I may make some adjustments with some students) and will also have a xmas party. My plan is to have the xmas party on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 17th, time TBA. More details later.
Enjoy the pictures!
This summer went by way too quickly but I did have a good summer of lessons, musical performances, and vacation. All that is left is getting my son ready to move in to college and get my fall schedule arranged. If you are interested in lessons please contact me by email and I will give you more information. I like to schedule an interview with each prospective student and a parent. This is to give both parties a chance to meet and discuss lessons and expectations. Check out the rest of the website to get more information. I look forward to getting back with former students and beginning teaching relationships with new students!
Some of my favorite pictures from the summer:
On Sunday, May 23, 2010, my piano students gave their recital showcasing their May Review pieces and ensembles. Each student played a memorized solo, one student played in a student/teacher duet, and all students participated in one ensemble and performed one or two pieces. Awards were given to recognize practice, festival performances, points awards, and May Review. We had a “yummy” reception of cookies and drinks and are having one last lesson of the school year this week. I hope all who either participated or attended enjoyed themselves and will continue to “do music” this summer in some way, whether it be lessons, listening, or going to concerts. Check back later for pictures!
Students performed all of their May Review pieces at lessons and then selected from these memorized pieces their May Recital solos. All students performed in one of the ensembles. Awards were given for practice, festivals, points folder and May Review.
Duets are ensembles too!
We had a joint ensemble lesson this month on Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 4:30 – 5:30. Students play eda solo of their choosing (not Christmas) and their ensemble pieces. Next time we get together as a group is Dec. 18th from 4:30-6:00.
